Design Researcher / Consultant
Shuichiro Ogawa
Bridging design thinking with emerging technology R&D to create environments where people can experiment, learn, and try again.
Thesis
Researching the conditions that open up human potential.
Analyzing how evaluation systems and institutions affect people's willingness to take on challenges, and researching how to design conditions for second chances.
-
Conditions for trying
Under what conditions can people begin to try out ideas that have not yet taken shape?
-
Evaluation and opportunity
Why does a single evaluation or failure — or age and background — constrain the range of future opportunities?
-
Reframing inability
What becomes visible when we view inability to act not as a personal trait but as a condition of the surrounding environment?
-
Designing second chances
How should we design settings and systems so that people can try again?
Practice
Bridging design and R&D.
Leading design consulting (Manager) at a global consulting firm's Design Practice. Connecting design thinking and service design with R&D in AI and other emerging technologies — from strategy formulation to prototyping, business feasibility evaluation (PoC/PoB), and value validation.
Previously led company-wide R&D strategy at an education company, developing new learning services powered by generative AI. Before that, led R&D teams at an IT consulting firm and launched new services and customer success operations at product companies. Teaching creative technology at an art university. PMP® certified.

Selected Work
-
Financial institution BtoC contract process redesign
Formulated a 3–5 year mid-to-long-term vision. Designed As-Is / To-Be user journey maps and migration roadmaps. Led from UX concept to per-touchpoint screen design.
-
Healthcare app marketing strategy
Formulated a mid-to-long-term marketing strategy. Coordinated KPI design, requirements definition, user journey mapping, and stakeholder alignment to concretize initiatives.
-
Company-wide R&D strategy
Formulated a company-wide R&D roadmap targeting 3–10 year business growth and presented it to executives as a technology strategy. Led execution of approved R&D projects.
-
Generative AI in education R&D
Oversaw end-to-end from technology survey through impact measurement. Rapidly prototyped with Firebase + TypeScript and built an evaluation platform on GCP.
-
Multimodal emotion analysis system
Developed a system integrating facial analysis via Azure Cognitive Services. Enabled high-accuracy instructor evaluation prediction, reducing instructor management effort by 40%.
-
Peer-effect cohort learning
Developed and operated a community app on a Firebase + TypeScript serverless stack. Designed peer-influence evaluation algorithms from behavioral logs; outcomes transferred to business unit.
-
IoT / LPWA new business development
From technology survey (IoT, LPWA, projection mapping) through sensor device, processing platform, and API development to PoC execution.
-
SaaS growth hacking
Implemented admin panel feature improvements. Early-adopted AWS Athena for log analytics and customer behavior analysis. Established a data-driven improvement cycle with RCT-based impact measurement.
